Zaid,

No problem, thank you for writing the post and I hope you continue to enjoy Gaming & Learning.

I am currently working on a RnD project concerning simple game-based learning for a small area of secondary school Mathematics. I may be posting about it on this blog and requesting feedback soon and if it is of interest to you please keep an eye out.

Kind regards,

Alex

We've also put together some gaming resources that you might be interested in. Many of the links and materials have been listed by a group of teachers participating in a year-long study group.

It is quite new but I don't have a specific date. (I can find out from my doof contact.) I think the concept is strong as casual game play and social networking are on the rise. It seems that many emerging online innovations are incorporating social networking (see for example my Digital Vaults post).

Concerning the actual games themselves, PC/console gamers like yourself may not be very excited about them, however, the social networking side of doof feeds on the element that all gamers share, that of competitiveness.

Casual games like those in doof have universal appeal (evident in recent research on gamer demographics of casual games). Personally I think doof would appeal to a large constituency of different types of gamers, and it would also appeal to those who are actively involved in other social networking tools, such as Facebook.

What are your thoughts?

Hey,
How old is doof? I'm guessing it's pretty new. Do you think these kind of games that they offer will keep users there? I'm more of a PC/console gamer myself, so I'm more interested in longer games with a storyline and strategic objectives. I think the concept of forming a social network around gaming is really great and will turn into something big. This platform looks great too. Just not sure if it appeals (or is meant to appeal) to more dedicated gamers and fans. What do you think?

It is very interesting to learn that so many parents are opting to homeschool their child rather than send them to the local public or private school. Although I am also a parents dissatisfied with my local public school's academic instruction, with the environment of the local school and I too have a preference to provide religious and moral instruction to my children, I have opted for private school and find it interesting that I had not considered my option of homeschooling.

The growing rate of those parents who opt to homeschool their child should be an eyeopener to the Board of Education and the National Education Association. The growth of 7%-12% per year of homeschoolers should show the "powers that be" that parents are dissatisfied with the condition of our public schools and that something should be done to fix the numerous problems - the #1 being funding to the schools and #2 teacher salaries!

Hi Alexandra, twitter is not only good because of forcing people going right to the point or because it is compatible with cell phones.
It is good because it clearly tell us what to write!!!
One barrier to Blogs is that one don't know what to write in a blog.
with twitter, the question is asked: What are you doing.
No stress of how to start, or what to write.
